Quest Twelve

Podcasts

I checked out Podcast.net and Yahoo podcast. When searching for library news, I found a great site through podcast.net. The site is called Sirsi Dynis Institute. It provides videos that instruct librarians on Teen instant messaging and gaming, coaching your employees, a beginners guide to poscasting and much more. I didn't find much in Yahoo podcast. when searching book review podcasts, Yahoo podcast provided the New York book review and a children's book review. Podcast.net didn't provide up to date book reviews.

Quest twelve

YouTube

I picked this video because it reminds me of my son. This is something he would do. He has been skateboarding for fifteen years and traveling all over the United States to different skate parks. I enjoyed watching videos of famous singers like Elton John. I liked how public libraries used YouTube for advertising thier summer reading programs. I think a great young adult program would be to have them make a video of themselves and post it in YouTube. Cool!!

Bob Dylan Post

I liked the Bob Dylan website. I sent a message to my daughter and she loved it. This is a cool way to advertise. I don't like most of the advertisements on websites because they are too busy and interferes with what your trying to read, but this one is great. It definitely caught my attention. I think this type of advertisement would grab the attention of our young adult patrons.

Quest Eleven Part 2

Someone Special

Someone who cares, someone who listens, someone who loves you,

Someone who I trust, someone who is my hero,

Someone who I think is the best person in the whole world,

Someone who knows how you feel, someone who is my role model,

Someone who knows how to make me feel safe.

To me this must be someone pretty special,

That someone must be you.

Quest Eleven

These online apps are great. I know I will be using Zoho Writer. I like being able to save something from home and be able to access it from work without worrying about a floppy disc or a USB port. I used the word program to type one of my daughters poems she wrote as a teenager.

Quest Ten

I liked the slideroll website the best. I am excited about creating a slide show of family pictures and sending it to family members. I also enjoyed the dogster website.

Quest Nine

I like being able to set up a wiki website without being technology savvy or knowledge of HTML. I would not use wiki for reference questions, but I do like them for book clubs and pathfinders. I think setting up a book club wiki for summer reading like the Princeton Public Library did is a great idea. I found several books I would like to read. I thought the Library Success: A Best Practice Wiki is a great resource website. I especially liked the resources provided for programming and readers advisory.

Quest Eight

The three social networking sites I looked at included: Bebo, Friendster, and MySpace. I didn't look at Facebook because I didn't want to set up an accout unless I could view the site first.

Bebo is a great site if you like music and videos.

What I liked the most about friendster is being able to search for either a friend or a classmate. I also liked the classified section.

I think MySpace offered the most content to view such as videos, forums, blogs and much more, but I didn't like the provocative and sexy content of the pictures and videos.

Quest Seven

Sun Flower
Sun Flower,
originally uploaded by CengiZ's.
I picked this picture because I like bright colored flowers. This one is beautiful. I like being able to post pictures in flickr. I have a few friends that use flickr, so we will be able to share our photos.

Quest Six

Technorati: I don't see myself using technorati much because it seems to be a lot of blogs. It doesn't seem very useful to me since blogs are mostly opinions and not factual information.

Del.icio.us: I still continue to use my favorites on my computer, but I do like Del.icio.us because I can access my favorite sites from a different computer. Whether I'm at work, home or on vacation, I can access all my favorites by using Del.icio.us.

Quest Four

It took me a while to figure out RSS. It is nice having my favorite links in one area. I also like not having popups. I will probably continue using my favorites on my computer because that is what I'm use to using. Here is my URL.

Quest Three

Signing up for my IM account was easy. I couldn't find anyone to IM, so I asked CCPL Reference Desk a question. I don't think I would use IM on a regular bases. I'd rather just email people.

Quest Two

Creating my blog was challenging. I was determined to figure it out myself and after two hours I did. Now I can spend some time learning more about blogging. It was a great accomplishment.

Quest One

The hardest habit for me is developing a plan to achieve my goal. The easiest habit is accepting responsibility for my own learning. I attend TLC classes often and complete my work on time.
